Job Summary:

Residency / Wellness Officer

Responsibilities:

  • Perform home visits to determine residency and wellness check of students referred.
  • Perform and obtain documentation regarding absences
  • Provide written reports on cases to be referred back to Attendance Office
  • Maintain knowledge of state, local, and school system guidelines on attendance.
  • Gather and assess attendance data at a school, groups of schools, or a district.
  • Submit monthly reports of active cases with status/outcomes
  • Monitor occurrences of extreme absenteeism, unexcused absences, and excessive tardiness.
  • Look for patterns that indicate a student may be at risk.
  • Locate students that are habitually missing from school.
  • Determine the underlying cause of ongoing absences.
  • Meet with parents and students to discuss attendance issues.
  • Work with administration to implement absence-mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with compulsory attendance laws.
  • Write and submit case reports on investigative findings and resolution.
  • Report issues of concern to child services or law enforcement.


Credential/ Qualifications:

  • Working with students and parents in related position
  • Working district/state/federal laws and regulations relating to child welfare and attendance experience desired


Knowledge of:

  • Youth programs, school and community activities.
  • Basic computer skills with applications such as MS Word, MS Excel etc.
  • General office procedures and office machines (computer, fax, and copier).
  • Correct English/Spanish usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Available community resources both public and private.
  • Oral and written communication skills.


Ability to:

  • Work well with the community at-large, including parents and students.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
