It Will Take More Than $60K Salaries to Improve Morale, Teachers Say

Educators say $60,000 in base salary will not cut it, but a new congressional bill wants teachers to earn more. In order to ensure that salaries keep pace with inflation, 85% of the grants would go directly to school districts, 85% of which would go to state agencies, which would adjust pay structures and provide cost-of-living adjustments.

According to the National Teacher and Principal Survey, teachers in 2020-21 earned an average salary of $61,600 and worked 52 hours a week on average. The number of teachers in Mississippi earning $46,862 on average in 2020-21 varies depending on their location, as they earn on average $46,222 in New York.
